Andere Monjo

ECLIPSES #2

Eclipses explore the poetic language of reflecting natural light in space.

Inspired by the visual effects of sunlight, Andere explores its way of projecting reflections and makes delicate compositions of floating mirrors. Tracing irregular contours, she allows herself to be guided by the automatic movement of the drawing hand, to define shapes. Then, in tune with her intuitive way of experiencing art, she randomly layers mirrors and transparent coloured glass screens to discover what she calls eclipses.

Gathering and layering glass, Andere crafts each Eclipse to reflect fragments of light that move through space throughout the day, following the cycles of the sun.

INQUIRY

Andere Monjo lives and works in Empordà (Spain).

After graduated from the University of Arts London, with an Master degree in Materials Futures at Central Saint Martins School (2009), her works and design objects have been exhibited in New York, London, Paris, Switzerland, Belgium and Milan.

Her creative practice studies the poetics of uncontrolled processes, focusing most of her work on the uidity of the planet nature’s cycles and, most lately, on the evolution of the material-emotional transformation practiced in art therapy. Among her best-known pieces are the Rain tables (represented originally by Mint Gallery in London) in which Andere allows traces of rain to intervene in the spontaneous creation of water colours.

Most her works express the presence of a momentum as a result of an impulse, that connects with the sensorial, the intimate and the intuitive. Without being fully conscious during the artistic procedure, inevitably, each personal exploration ends up leaving an inner trace of sensations that transmute and are transformative.

A part from her works, Andere offers experimental workshops with the same approach of exploring intuitive processes, turning it into an art therapy experience for her local community.
